My Companion
The first of many platforms in research and innovation.

My Companion was born as a desire to make life simpler.

During my first job out of college, I found myself inside a large multinational organization applying various methods and techniques in order to help business units simplify their operations.

As with all things, our methods varied according to the specific business scenarios we were tackling. However, there was one approach which rose above all in its fundamental importance to any project we would work on.

Formally known as Business Architecture, the simple practice of mapping concepts on a sheet of paper has been around for more then a century. Even more surprising though was the fact that business process management practices were not a common concept in many business leaders. For those that had knowledge of business process management and used even the most basic practices, it became really easy to assist them.

It all boils down to being able to understand your business and how all of its components fit together. Its not easy task and one that all entrepreneurs, business owners, and business leaders ascribe to as part of the job. But again, it is surprising that this specific traning, perhaps because of its technical nature, evades its participation in formal school training.

For me the value and benefit that Business Architecture was so much that I wanted to bring it into my life in a tangible way. Although I was an engineer, I had never built anything solid in my life except for my senior year in college. I had to built a rocket but I was not the best at it. I was darn good at spreadsheets and understanding complex system flows.

My Companion originated out of the desire to create a central platform which I could use to organize my personal data. Although there are other popular vendors out there, I found none that truly mirrored the natural flow of how we approach goal setting and preparation. I wanted to be able to wake up and get a 360 view of my life in a few minutes withouth the hassle of rumaging through sheets of highlighted paper.

Although I was already dangling in computer science at the time, although mostly from the business analytics perspective, it was at this point that I decided that I would pursue computer science more seriously. It was not much out of passion, but more so out of a necessity.

Perhaps it is a matter of personal opinion, as well as aptitude, but the learning curve for computer science is quite steep. Unless you are of a technical nature, or have education in a technical field, it can be a very challenging field. Nonetheless, it is possible for anyone to learn if they set themselves for it.

Turning the page forward to today, I am happy to share what started as a personal endeavor with other business owners. The world is filled with opportunities for service, and having the right resources and partners makes the journey much more pleasant. When you focus on doing things right, the results will always speak for themselves.
